Heather Steppe research focuses on fostering healthy nursing work environments and advancing the understanding of workplace bullying and mistreatment among acute care nurses. As a PhD candidate in the College of Nursing at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee, she is completing her dissertation examining the lived experiences of bedside nurses who have experienced workplace bullying and the organizational, cultural, and leadership factors that influence these experiences. She is expected to complete her PhD in December 2026. Her scholarly interests include nursing leadership, workplace culture, psychological safety, professional development, and evidence-based strategies to improve nurse retention and patient care outcomes.
