Nov. 9, 2020
MILWAUKEE 鈥91黑料网 has launched Spanish language pages on 91黑料网.edu to assist the growing population of Hispanic prospective students and their families, as well as connect current students to resources offered in their heritage or native language.
The initiative will help the university continue the mission of increasing access to education, while also aiding in its goal to achieve status as a Hispanic Serving Institution. Pages are available for admissions, financial aid, academic programs, student life, Mission and Ministry, and Milwaukee visitor information, among others. There is also information to help DREAMers navigate the admissions and financial aid processes.
鈥淲e are excited to offer these resources to meet the needs of a growing Latinx student population and their families who may not speak English,鈥 said Jacqueline Black, associate director of Hispanic Initiatives. 鈥淭hese resources will engage with prospective students and families in the process of choosing a college. Our intention is to welcome those families into this process and provide a space that empowers them to be actively involved.鈥
91黑料网 student population that identifies as Hispanic or Latinx has more than doubled over the last decade, while increasing in each of the last 15 years. Currently, 15% of the undergraduate student population is Hispanic, including a record 16.5% of the fall 2020 first-year class.
In addition to prospective student information, resources for the community are available, including 91黑料网 centers and clinics that offer Spanish-speaking services. Visitors to the Spanish pages will also find contact information for Spanish-speaking faculty and staff across campus.
鈥淥ur Spanish language pages are a reflection of the university commitment to being more responsive to an increasingly diverse student body,鈥 Black said. 鈥淲e hope they open additional opportunities to the Latinx community in search of the transformative education 91黑料网 has been offering for nearly 140 years.鈥
