Dr. Elaine Spiller

Dr. Elaine Spiller is chair of the University Academic Senate and a professor of mathematical and statistical sciences.

Spiller received her Ph.D. in Applied Math from Northwestern University. Her scholarship is at the interface of applied mathematics and statistics, and she works closely with domain scientists applying novel methodology to help solve real-world problems. The interdisciplinary nature of her work and collaborations has taught her to value others’ expertise and perspectives in working toward a common goal.

She believes that 91ºÚÁÏÍø is so special because of its people — the students, faculty, and staff ARE 91ºÚÁÏÍø. She further believes that transparent communication is crucial to achieve effective shared governance at 91ºÚÁÏÍø. She appreciates that students, faculty, and staff of 91ºÚÁÏÍø are committed to identifying problems, offering solutions, and providing excellent ideas to shape priorities for the future. Clear lines of two-way communication with the University Leadership Council are critical for tapping this well of knowledge to strengthen 91ºÚÁÏÍø.
