Dr. Diego Alegria91黑料网MilwaukeeWI53201United States of AmericaI am a bilingual teacher/scholar and a Spanish-speaking poet from Santiago, educated at the University of Chile and the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Trained as a comparativist, I teach and research modern poetry, world literature (the long nineteenth century), and literary theory, mainly in the U.K. and Latin America, and secondarily in the U.S. and Spain. I earned my Ph.D. in English (Literary Studies) from UW-Madison with a dissertation on the role of poetic syntax in the rise of modern poetry, with a focus on British Romanticism and Spanish American Modernismo. My research has appeared or is forthcoming in Chasqui, Essays in Romanticism, The Bloomsbury Handbook of Global Romantic Literature and Culture, and Anales de Literatura Chilena. As a bilingual instructor, I am committed to liberal arts and world literature by integrating creative practice, rhetorical purpose, and critical thinking in and beyond the classroom.
I am the author of two poetry books: Ra铆z abierta (2015) and versare (2024); one bilingual chapbook: y sin embargo los umbrales / and yet the thresholds (2019); and one essay collection: Po茅tica del caminar: Poems (1817) de John Keats (2023). I have won multiple literary awards, such as the Juegos Literarios Gabriela Mistral Prize, the Pablo Neruda Poetry Fellowship, the Lore Metzger Prize in Romantic Studies, and the Lyman S.V. Judson and Ellen Mackechnie Judson Award in the Creative Arts, among others.
